Our Golf Course

Keswick Club is the perfect blend of "classical" and "modern" golf course architecture. It's a wonderful setting of exceptional natural beauty, featuring tall ancient oaks, grassy wetlands and spectacular mountain views as well as a variety of lakes and streams.

Fred Findlay, a Scottish immigrant and renowned designer of several courses in central Virginia, built Keswick's original course in 1948. The Arnold Palmer Golf Course Design Company completed a redesign of the course in 1992, elevating Keswick to the status of an Arnold Palmer Signature Course.

Palmer said the course had "good bones" and was therefore able to keep the majority of the original design. Palmer's touches included additional bunkers, contouring changes to the land and new tee box complexes. The lush grounds, old growth trees, shrubs, and sheer beauty will allow one to step back in time while playing a modern and very challenging course.

The golf course at Keswick Hall is one of only nine in the state (and only 411 internationally) that have received its Audubon Environmental Certification, a highly sought after recognition program awarded to courses that have proven to provide a high degree of environmental quality for both people and wildlife. Categories of compliance include environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, integrated pest management, water conservation, water quality management and outreach and education.

The course maintains 25 acres of buffer zones in which no fertilizers or pesticides are used around the perimeter of the golf course or natural streams that run through it.

With Keswick's keen interest in the environment, it is not surprising the Estate is home to 80 different bird species, whitetail deer, fox, migrating geese, rabbits and squirrels. The Keswick Golf Course is also surrounded by 320 different varietals of trees and shrubbery.
