Maintainable Fitness Goals
Assembling and maintaining fitness targets is all in the mind. It's all about telling yourself that you can do it and formulating a strategy that is practical and feasible for you. The following are a few pointers that have helped me make goals that I can keep without getting sidetracked or lose motivation.
1. State your objective - It often helps to write down what your goal is and being able to revisit that. Writing my goals down helps me to keep things in perspective and asserting that what I'm trying to achieve is indeed practical. Moreover, it helps me elucidate and deliberate on how I will go about achieving it - which I also make a point to write down.
2. Be practical - keep revisiting your goal to reinforce the feasibility and reasonableness of it. Don't set the bar too high to start with. Impractical goals are recipes for disaster. If it takes too long to see results, one loses motivation to continue on as the effort doesn't seem worthwhile.
3. Celebrate successes - Reward yourself for every little achievement. Buy yourself a new swimsuit or something that you've always wanted with every little milestone you achieve. This will keep you motivated and will give you a reason to remain on track.
4. Fitness buddy - Identify friends or family members who would like to work out with you. Having a pal to walk with or do a spin class with helps me to keep on track and keeps us both stimulated. If there are certain days I don't feel like working out, my friends always talk me out of my lack of inspiration and I find myself heading to the gym.
5. Healthy choices - Try to make healthy food choices on an everyday basis. Pretty soon it will turn into a habit and will eventually seem effortless. I started doing this a while back and now I don't get tempted by random high sugar treats in the break room at work or when my boy friend is munching on a snickers bar on the couch while we're watching TV.
